Meet Julie

With a 27‑year clinical career in developmental psychology, I’ve specialised in early childhood, trauma-informed practice, educational psychology and cross-disciplinary collaboration. I am an experienced Supervisor and I am a member of the Australian Association of Psychologists.

In my career, I have worked in government, non-government, disability services, schools, out-of-home care programs and private practice.

I have led specialist behaviour and intensive family intervention teams providing family support to children with disabilities, and from this experience developed my understanding of trauma-informed practice models and attachment-based interventions.

In 2007, I was fortunate to be awarded a Churchill Fellowship to study therapeutic foster care for children with disabilities in UK, the US Netherlands and Finland. https://www.churchilltrust.com.au/project/to-study-therapeutic-programs-developed-for-foster-carers-caring-for-children-with-disabilities/

Areas of Interest

Intellectual Developmental Disorder

My areas of particular interest include working with children with global developmental delay, intellectual disability and autism. In particular;

  • Children with disabilities who have experienced early developmental trauma.
  • Children with disabilities in foster and alternative care.
  • Applying therapeutic techniques that are adapted and effective for individuals with intellectual developmental disorder.

I have a sound understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with intellectual developmental disorders and neurodivergence.

Cognitive and Educational Assessments

  • Cognitive Assessments for Global Developmental Delay and Intellectual Developmental Disorder
  • Academic and Learning assessment for SLD’s (Dyslexia, Dyscalculia )

Family Centered Practice

Collaborative problem-solving when navigating complex family dynamics or differing perspectives.

I am a Psychology Board of Australia approved Supervisor for psychologists seeking supervision. I can provide supervision to provisional and registered psychologists. This includes external supervision for psychologists seeking Endorsement for Educational and Developmental Psychology.

What I Offer

I have many years of experience supervising both provisional and registered psychologists. As such, I am very familiar with the requirements for Board registration in Australia for 4+2 and 5+1 internship programs, including case conceptualisation and case reports. I also offer Endorsement Supervision aligned with Psych BA requirements.

Supervision sessions are designed to help you:

  • Deepen your assessment and diagnostic confidence

  • Learn to adapt clinical techniques for neurodivergent clients

  • Work from a trauma-informed framework

  • Explore attachment-based and family intervention strategies

  • Feel supported in complex clinical work

I am available for psychology supervision online. Services include regular supervision or once-off consultations as required.

How I Supervise

I approach supervision in an empathic and collaborative manner. I take pride in assisting supervisees in various aspects, including:

  • Case Conceptualisation: Together, we will discuss complex cases, analyse and conceptualise them to formulate effective strategies.
  • Reflective Practice: I encourage a reflective practice to enhance skills and self-awareness.
  • Deliberate Practice: Assisting with the identification of areas where specific skill development would be useful. We will work together to pinpoint areas for improvement, changing challenges into opportunities for growth.

Whether you’re seeking registration, endorsement, or skill enhancement, I am here to provide guidance, support and to share my knowledge.

Please feel free to email me to discuss your supervision requirements.
