Board Approved Supervisor

I am a Psychology Board of Australia Approved Supervisor for psychologists seeking supervision. I provide supervision in psychology to provisional psychologists and registered psychologists. I can also provide external supervision for psychologists seeking Endorsement for Educational and Developmental Psychology. I am an experienced Supervisor and have had over 25 years of experience practising as a Psychologist. I am a member of the Australian Association of Psychologists.

I have worked in government and non-government disability services, schools, out-of-home care programs and in private practice.

Intellectual Disability and Global Developmental Delay

My areas of particular interest are working with children and their families. I have worked for many years with children with global developmental delay, intellectual disability and autism.  I also have experience working with children with developmental language disorders.

I have experience in the assessment of specific learning disorders and in treating a wide range of emotional and behavioural issues in children.

I have also worked with adults with intellectual disabilities and with parents who have intellectual developmental disorder.

I am very familiar with positive behaviour support as well as family-centred approaches to best practice when working with children.

Trauma Informed Care

For many years I co-ordinated and led specialist behaviour intervention and intensive family support teams in South Australia.

This involved therapy with children with disabilities who were in alternative care including foster care. From this work I developed my understanding of trauma-informed models of care and attachment-based parenting. I have a particular interest in children with disabilities who have experienced early developmental trauma.

In 2007 I was fortunate to be awarded a Churchill Fellowship to study therapeutic foster care for children with disabilities, in the US, UK, the Netherlands and Finland. https://www.churchilltrust.com.au/project/to-study-therapeutic-programs-developed-for-foster-carers-caring-for-children-with-disabilities/

 Psychology Supervision

I enjoy supervising and have had many years of experience supervising both provisional and registered psychologists. As such I am very familiar with the requirements for Board registration in Australia for 4+2 and 5+1 internship programs including case conceptualisation and case reports.

Whether it’s guiding intern psychologists through their initial steps or mentoring registered psychologists in refining their practice, my support is tailored to each individual’s needs.

Areas of  Interest

My professional background has equipped me with proficiency in various areas of practice, including:

  • Intellectual Developmental Disorder and Autism: I have a sound understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with intellectual developmental disorders and autism. My knowledge extends to assessment, intervention, and strategies that empower individuals and their families.
  • Family-Centered Practice and Attachment Theory: I firmly believe in the power of family-centered practice and attachment theory. These frameworks play a pivotal role in fostering healthy relationships and facilitating positive outcomes, particularly in the context of child development.
  • Early Intervention: Early intervention is a cornerstone of my practice. By identifying and addressing developmental concerns at an early stage, we can create a strong foundation for lifelong growth and success.

My Approach to Clinical Supervision

My supervisory approach is empathic, collaborative, and professional. I take pride in assisting supervisees in various aspects, including:

  • Case Conceptualisation: Together, we will discuss complex cases, analyse and conceptualise them to formulate effective strategies.
  • Reflective Practice: Reflection is a powerful tool for personal and professional growth. I encourage a reflective practice to enhance skills and self-awareness.
  • Identifying Areas for Development: We will work together to pinpoint areas for improvement, transforming challenges into opportunities for growth.

My commitment lies in helping you achieve your professional aspirations. Whether you’re seeking registration, endorsement, or skill enhancement, I am here to provide guidance, support and to share my knowledge.

I am available for psychology supervision online. I am available to provide regular supervision or once-off consultations as required. Please feel free to email me to discuss your supervision requirements.
